Małgorzata Rozpondek wrote to us in the name of the Polish President Lech Kaczyński and presented the statement of the Polish President about our initiative:
Dear Miss [Brakoniecka – in Poland it is enough to address a letter or mail with „Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms.“ -AB],
we confirm here we received your letters from 4th and 16th June 2009 which you send to the President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński.
We would like to affirm you that President appreciates activity and involvement of young people for reputation of Poland. These people determined new ways already many times – and just because of their actions. That was the reason why we followed with a great attention the internet presence on www.scholar-online.p of the initiative to set 4th June as a European holiday l.
We affirm the whole coming correspondency for the President is analyzed carefully and the written remarks, proposals and postulates have been worked out with a routine which has to be due to the President of Poland and his Chamber.
We add that the President underlined in the article in „Rzeczpospolita“ [daily newspaper in Poland – AB] from 3th June 2009 „ (…) In the whole calendar of the Polish way to the freedom has the day 4th June 1989 a special position. At this day happened an irreversible breakdown of the totalitarian power. The system changes happened gradually, but their direction was already set up. Polish people have forbidden to communists the right to governing over our home country and they were against every attempt to repress soul and mind of our nation. At this day we became the position of free people. (…).
The project of settling 4th June as a „Holiday of free elections (choices), of Europe and Europeans“ would be indeed an emphasis on the Poland's role in the process of system changes which happened in the last century in Europe. Nevertheless you know it certainly the realization of such project needs an approval of all members of the European Union.
