Tell us what you think. Did your contribution arise out of your own initiative, e.g. by voting in the European elections or perhaps by taking part in a cross-cultural project? Or did you represent your country abroad in such a way that others had to reconsider their prejudices? Or perhaps you know of someone who deserves to be praised?
Anyone who knows me knows that I've always been a Buzek fan. Let me say that I was as appalled and disappointed as EVERYBODY here. Show me PROGRESS AND ACTIONS behind your words, Mr President. I think we can make out of Europe a better word for all Europeans, if we just act in this direction! Only word's won't do much. So, please, please, act like a real statesman!

Haha, now the neighbour can't count! She wanted to list four of my points and she listed five of them! BTW: you see that not only we are moved by this thing! We see that Europe needs you, really!

Ah, we talk about it at the table that the fifth point of PoTomek quite unreal is and I was too fast. PoTomek should not behave so, finally I quote him like a fortuneteller and it means something!
Dear President of the European Parliament, Prof. Jerzy Buzek!
I read attentive and in my opinion very carefully your answer to the Open Letter of the project founder and project coordinator at Scholar, Anna Brakoniecka, and I have to honestly admit that I was shocked. Why? You as a person with a high education level and even with a professor grade , the former Prime Minister of Poland and the only Prime Minister in the history of Poland after 1989 [after the transformation of political system - AB] who kept his mandate for the whole time foreseen in constitution, more over you are a European deputy with 5 years of experience and you treat this project like a little child. A child is happy when its head it stroked - it is an emotional challenge and a reason why a child should be luckily about it and everybody around should take a deep bow for it. Its ridiculous and pitiful.
Among all you should be conscious that such a mission program like scholar has no chance to spread its wings – without political and economic support from the side of EU structures - which you represent.
I support the postulates of PoTomek and other participants of the project, because it is (right) on the button.
You can see with a simple eye that this program which is offered by scholar, is very welcomed and many talked about it with respect, among all you, Mister President of the European Parliament.
Scholar has already many successes which you can not underestimate.
One of these successes is a visible change in the attitude of Germans. At first they were shy and during discussions they started to be domesticated and talked with us about the most sensitive Polish-German topics. They noticed that we won't attack them just because they are Germans. They started to understand our Polish fears, f. e. about E. Steinbach and the rebuilding Nazi's movement.
I think it is a way to a real integration in the Union and this is a true success of scholar.
It is so easy and at the same time so brilliant that no one of EU experts and bureaucrats thought about it.
Maybe you, Mr President of the European Parliament, Prof. Jerzy Buzek, will give a little of your precious time to get to know this project which already exists , before you speak nice words without meaning.
You come from a great movement SOLIDARNOŚĆ, which took away from the government people from so called communism and you know it very well that “THEY” spoke round, nice sentences which didn't bring anything, either. I would like to believe that this is just a coincidence of the formulation.
More over Scholar showed a problem which nobody was thinking about up to now: how far are we allow to go with our exchange of opinions when in a neighbour country is an election campaign, so that nobody will showed off for participation without permission. Example: the Germans “opened up” and write about their election campaign, incl. moods, and others, Poles too, are silent. Is it allowed or not? Should we do it or not? Maybe it is the time to build European parties? ,
Best regards and with a great respect for you - jab.
We were sitting with my female neighbour [Polish: Sasiadka] and we discussed hard. We invited our friends and we talked international in an international city about am international project for Europeans.
And we thought something out.
And that's the result:
London, 29th August 2009
Call to Europeans!
The European Union is a strange thing – build up after the war to make the good neighbourhood relations secure, based on the economic cooperation, build-up at the coal and steel, enlarged on other areas of economy, now it sets at the integration in the complete range.
What is then a European integration anyway? We hear to more or less brilliant politicians – mostly during the election campaigns, when they toady to us for our votes – and we hear that the European integration is necessary and it's one of pillars of the European Union. But nobody cares about it in the nearer perspective, you talk about it much or you talk rather about the necessity of such integration, but there are few acts in this direction. There are some show-piece projects, there is cooperation in the areas at the borders, there are some single foundations, but there is no coherent idea. There is no conception for the integration, but there is a necessity of it which is spoken gladly and often in the political speeches. There are talks with beautiful words about the necessity of the communication, better understanding and common dialogue.
Politicians are very interesting people. They talk much or less grammatically correctly, they underline more or less the important things, but mostly they speak enthusiastically, powerfully, willingly and they like to catch attention and to sweat in the spotlights they can deal with gewgaws and the important things they put into a fog of importance and let these things develop themselves.
The same is with the European integration. You talk about it much, but nobody occurs itself with it. You talk about a necessity of it as well as in a case of a hobbling person: oh, an artificial limb would be nice, it is technically possible, there is the newest technique, but as long as such person is able to hobble, as long you don't have to occur about it, because this person will come everywhere (s)he wants, right?
Jab wrote it is like stroking a child: to speak out compliments costs nothing and the thing seems to be done. This time you think about it wrong, Mr President, it is not finished. There should have been a fresh wind like in an advert. You should represent us, not only the Eastern Europeans, but all citizens of Europe. And now nor me nor my female neighbour nor our friends feel being represented by you.
At this place I have to appeal directly to one of the most important Europeans, to Mr President Buzek:
Except opening, supervision, closing, cancelling and other actions connected with sessions of the European Parliament there is another task in the area of competences of the President (Art. 19): At the level of the international contacts, during official ceremonies, at the tasks of administration, judgement and finance the European Parliament is represented by the President who is allowed to delegate his tasks.
Exactly here you have a freedom of acting, Mr President, you are heard worldwide, Mr President. You can show your good will in the complete area.
There should have been a sign for Europe and now there is just a patch.
Jab wrote that you come from the movement Solidarnosc with great traditions. I agree. You were a [Polish] Prime Minister and a European deputy for 5 years. You know how to deal with policy, other way you wouldn't become the President of the European Parliament and in the case of scholar you just act like a politician from the third league.
Stanislaw wrote about chances to promote Poland. That project is not only a chance to promote Poland, but the whole Europe.
In the diversity united – that's the motto of Europe and the leading thought of Scholar.
I observe this project almost from the very beginning, I see how it develops and I can't describe how many interesting opinions I read here, how many new things I learnt and how much my (ex) chief discovered about Germans and Poles here. And I regret that this project is not known in a bigger range, because already in a small range you see specific and visible effects, and what will be when it will be a flagship of the European Union? And when you, Mr President, will be the person who takes a patronage over this project, then you'll come into the history as the one who pushed a good thing in the right direction.
When you see the brilliance of this idea then start acting finally. You have such a range of possibilities at disposal.
Almost at a day before the celebration of the anniversary of the beginning of the World War II we hear Russian news about spy theories where Poles apparently attacked Russia and other unbelievable stories and it would be useful when Europe gives a specific statement about it. Not only Poland itself, but exactly Europe. Europe which established in a row of war agreed in a long term to have a peaceful agreement. And if Europe should understand itself, we need a dialogue, an innovative dialogue – as you called it.
I repeat my postulates at Mr President:
I suggest:
1) that Mr President Buzek ask media politely to show interest on this project. In this way you will reach many people who don't know anything about scholar yet, and whose opinions could influence the discussions.
2) that Mr President Buzek will present himself in your Gallery of Europeans, as a special guest near prof. Bartoszewski, it would be nice to have Mr Buzek as a special guests, he has surely materials you could use for it
3) that Mr President Buzek takes your project under his patronage, if he likes this project so much and this fact you could use in the contacts with media (see 1st point)
4) maybe he doesn't know personally much about European founds, but his assistances or his colleagues have possibly such knowledge where you should give any application away to get some financial help. I don't know how far it could be connected with a patronage, whether it is just a strict media presence or connected with financial support, but you have to try.
5) someone wrote that he could take you into his team – I agree. From Brussels you would have more opportunities than from Germany. And if it would be possible to get this patronage then you wouldn't work just for image of scholar, but for the image of the President of the European Parliament as well.
At this point I appeal to Europeans:
If we are Europeans, if we live side by side and want to get to know each other, when we believe in more than just a free flow of money and consequences of the economic crisis, when we know it is possible what we believe since centuries from Braveheart over the French Revolution up to now: Liberté-Égalité-Fraternité so Freedom, Equality, Brotherhood, then we should write it among all here, in the meaningful area called “My contribution to Europe” that we expect ACTING by politicians and not only beautiful words and mostly we expect it from the new star at the European pantheon of Europeans, Mr President Buzek.
We want support and patronisation for this project which unites us REALLY, which improves true understanding between us, which makes easier to exchange information in different areas, which causes that we talk with each other like European to European.
We want that more Europeans participate at this project and we demand more than just a notice: “I wish you perseverance and strength for further work and everything the best.” That's why in my name and the name of my neighbour I ask other Europeans to subscribe this petition and to make suggestions how Mr President can act in the case of scholar.
When politicians talk so much about the necessity and want to show something, now they have the best real opportunity to do it. Finally they should represent us and our needs and when we want to work and live where we want, we can't run away from better understanding for other cultures, traditions and attitudes. And when we, thank to scholar, don't have to jump into the deep water, then we should speak for what is important for us: Freedom, Equality, Brotherhood, and Understanding!
Europeans, start to act!
Best regards
PoTomek and Sasiadka [neighbour]
PS. We will send it at newspapers, and we ask you to do the same. We will send it to our friends, and we ask you to do the same. And Ania [Anna] should give this signal further to Mr President so that he can see that Europeans can unite for a good thing!

And I don't agree just in one thing with PoTomek: PoTomek writes there is no coherent idea for the European integration, and it seems to me, I am even convinced, this idea is just the coherent idea for the European integration. Lately I saw the new area Gallery of Projects and there is a project which makes easier to exchange information between education institutions in Germany and thank to scholar (which participates at this project) I will be able to follow and comment the process of this expedition. Maybe we'll do such projects in Poland and other European countries next year?
Moreover I agree with PoTomek:
“When you see the brilliance of this idea then start acting finally. You have such a range of possibilities at disposal.”
I admire your work, team at scholar! It is really a conception of European integration and it works! You're brilliant and I can't understand why it is so hard for politicians to support you! I hope that this appeal will help you much! I will send it to my friends, too! All the best! Patricia
I admire your work, too. I'd like you to be a flagship project of the European Union, because you do a brilliant work and your contribution to the European integration and better understanding between us is just awesome!
scholar-online builds bridges between Europeans and I like this idea.
